Amalgamated Property Group (APG) received Development Approval in April 2020 for the second tower of their iconic Civic Quarter Precinct with the proposed design receiving endorsement from the National Capital Design Review Panel (NCDRP).
APG’s General Manager, Phil O’Brien, said “Civic Quarter 2 (CQ2) will be the corner stone of the Civic Quarter Precinct. It will offer A grade accommodation with the highest environmental credentials, including targeting a NABERS Energy rating in excess of 5 stars and Green Star and Wellness initiatives.
“Recognising the significance of this site as the entry point to the CBD we engaged extensively with the NCDRP, focusing on architectural expression and materiality to ensure the development is befitting of its location.
“Our Development Application for CQ2 provides for some 33,000sqm of net lettable area with a central atrium and typical floor plates of 3000sqm that support flexible working patterns through connected technologies and collaboration.”
The Development Application also proposes significant upgrades along Mort street which will create a high quality, pedestrian-focused public realm and includes the retention of the existing mature street trees, provision for additional planting and new seating areas.
The CQ Precinct focuses on creating an environment that promotes health and wellness, an initiative that began with Tower One which is due to be the first office building in the ACT to achieve a WELL Silver Core & Shell rating.
CQ Tower One was completed in December 2019 and has attracted some of Canberra’s Blue-Chip private sector tenants to the building including Westpac / St George.
Construction on CQ2 has since commenced, with an anticipated completion date of mid-2022.
