Amalgamated Property Group are proud to announce that its Civic Quarter (CQ1) project has been awarded WELL Core & Shell Certification at the Silver level by the International WELL Building Institute (IWBI). This outstanding achievement puts CQ1 at the forefront of wellness initiatives in the ACT, as the first commercial office building in the Capital to have achieved this rating.
The prestigious distinction was awarded through IWBI’s WELL Building Standard (WELL), which is the premier building standard to focus on enhancing people’s health and well-being through the buildings where we live, work and play.
Project features that helped CQ1 achieve its WELL Core & Shell Certification rating include:
- Air quality monitoring for the highest air indoor environment
- Air purification in the lifts
- Water quality monitoring to comply with WELL Building Standards
- Natural light maximized with the addition of optimised lighting systems where necessary
- Leading end-of-trip amenities to facilitate bike riding or other exercise
- Thermal and acoustic comfort designs
- Wellness initiatives that include a digital and physical Health & Wellness library, accessible at home or the office.
CQ1 is the first of the two towers in the Civic Quarter precinct, with CQ2 due for completion late 2022. Designed to be the Capital’s leading and sustainable corporate destination as a PCA Grade A 13 storey building, Amalgamated also included a focus on the WELL Building Standard as it aims to go beyond sustainable building design practices and focus on the health and well-being of the people within the building.
The Standard was developed by IWBI because sustainability ratings typically did not focus enough on the occupants, which is a very important issue considering the built environment has profound effects on health, well-being and productivity.
Created through seven years of rigorous research and development working with leading physicians, scientists, and industry professionals, WELL is a performance-based certification system that marries best practices in design and construction with evidence-based scientific research. CQ1 earned the distinction based on seven categories of building performance—Air, Water, Light, Nourishment, Fitness, Comfort and Mind—and successfully achieved a Silver level rating.
WELL is grounded in a body of evidence-based research that explores the connection between the buildings where we spend approximately 90 percent of our time, and the health and well-being impacts on the people inside these buildings. To be awarded WELL Core & Shell Certification by IWBI, CQ1 underwent rigorous testing and a final evaluation carried out by Green Business Certification Inc. (GBCI), which is the third-party certification body for WELL, to ensure it met all WELL Core & Shell Certification performance requirements.
