A great article, written by Steve Lohr, on the changes in modern workplace design. Of particular interest is the research on wellness and workability. At the University of Oregon they suggest that ‘exposure to sunlight and outdoor views correlated to about six per cent fewer sick days than those without’. While at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, research found that ‘well-ventilated offices can significantly improve a person’s ability to perform challenging tasks such as developing strategy or responding to a crisis’.

An interesting side effect is the reduction in work space per person, which means less space is needed to keep your employees well and working. This references American research, but is no different to what’s happening in Australian leasing and fit-out trends.
